What Were Your Initial Thoughts on Social Media?

In my work with social media and people marketing, one question that I have been asked over again is, "What were your initial thoughts on Social Media?" Many marketers, and even some writers, will rush to Twitter or Instagram before they've ever heard of any online business marketing strategies. This can be disastrous for both the person trying to market and the writer trying to sell their writing services.

A good sales pitch would involve research on the services and products you are selling, the history and popularity of those services and products, and the history of the media they are being used to promote. That's a lot of information, and unless it's done properly, the difference between success and failure may be enough to drive someone away.

If you take the time to do this research properly, you will know which companies have already done their research and built a presence in the media. You will also know which are not yet out there, but have an idea of where they are headed. It also gives you a fair chance to figure out which ones you want to partner with.

If you don't have any company already and your goal is to build a media empire, here are some questions you should ask yourself before jumping into an industry. What will it take to get the public to take notice of what I'm doing? Will my sales pitch to be effective?

Some companies fail because they do not realize the importance of creating a good reputation in the media. They start off with a bad name, or with limited branding and then either get in too deep, or can't pull the media's attention back to them. That's why you want to pay attention to the marketing and branding techniques they use. They must use proven strategies that have been in place for a long time.

Social Media has been around for a while, and you're only just starting to see the big guys playing in it. The challenge is that they all want to dominate the industry. If they did not have their own businesses, there is a good chance they would probably all run for the hills.

One of the greatest things about Social Media is that it is in its infancy. You have so many different types of people to target with advertising and marketing that it could be tough to make a name for yourself in all of them. But if you take the time to research and identify what works for you, it will be easier for you to connect with these people and find the ones who want to help you reach your goals.
